Draft — pending legal review
This is a plain-language starting draft, not final legal advice, and has not yet been reviewed by a lawyer. It will be updated once review is complete.
Privacy Policy
Last updated: 23 September 2026 (draft)
1. Who we are
This Privacy Policy explains how Design Quote Electrical Pty Ltd ("we", "us", "our") handles your personal information in GearLink ("the App"). We are committed to handling your information consistently with the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs) under the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth).
2. What we collect
When you register and use the App, we collect:
- Your name
- Your email address (also your login)
- Your business name, if you give us one
- Your phone number, if you give us one (for example, if you contact support)
- Basic technical information needed to run the App (such as login/session data)
We do not collect your full home address, and we do not collect or store your payment card details. If you subscribe to the App, payment is taken directly by our payment processor, Stripe — we only receive confirmation that payment succeeded.
The App also lists products from third-party stores and links out to them. Following one of those links and buying something is a transaction with that store, not with us — see our Affiliate Disclosure. We do not see or collect any information about purchases you make on another site.
3. Why we collect it
We use your information only to:
- Create and manage your account
- Operate the account features you use
- Contact you about your account
- Operate, secure, and improve the App
4. Who can see your information
The App is built so that account holders only see their own account, and cannot see other account holders' information.
We do not sell your personal information. We do not share it with third parties except service providers who help us run the App (for example, our hosting, email and payment providers), who are only permitted to use it to provide those services.
5. Where your information is stored
Your information is stored using reputable cloud service providers. Some providers may store or process data outside Australia; where that happens, we take reasonable steps to ensure it is handled consistently with the APPs.
6. Your rights
You can:
- Access the personal information we hold about you (the App includes an "export my data" option)
- Correct your information by updating your account
- Delete your account and associated data (the App includes a "delete my account" option)
- Ask questions or complain about how we handle your information by contacting us (see below). You may also contact the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) if you are not satisfied.
7. Security
We take reasonable steps to protect your information, including storing passwords in hashed form and using encrypted (HTTPS) connections. No system is completely secure, but we work to protect your data and will respond appropriately to any incident.
8. Retention
We keep your information while your account is active and for as long as needed to provide the App and meet legal obligations. When you delete your account, we delete or de-identify your personal information, except where we are required to retain it.
9. Changes to this Policy
We may update this Policy. If we make material changes, we will take reasonable steps to notify you.
10. Complaints
If you think your information has been misused — by us or by another user of the App — use Report a problem on your page, or email us. We will acknowledge your complaint within 5 business days and tell you the outcome. If you are not satisfied, you can contact the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (oaic.gov.au).
11. Contact
To access your data, ask a question, or make a complaint, email support@gearlink.com.au.
